Besides the natural beauties, mild Mediterranean climate, clean coast and crystal sea, the island of Hvar has a rich history and culture, which can be experienced by meeting its urban and rural parts with lively tradition and old arhitecture.
Natural beauties of the island of Hvar were recognised by numerous visitors, but also by the world's media and magazines (Lonely Planet, Sunday Times, Reuters, CNN Go, Forbes Magazine, Traveller etc.), considering Hvar as one of the most beautiful islands and best tourist destinations in the world. The fact that this island has an astonishing heritage was formally confirmed by UNESCO. Namely, four cultural phenomenons from Hvar are included in the UNESCO's World Heritage lists: Stari Grad plain, procession Following the cross, aloe lace made by Benedictine nuns, and Mediterranean cousine. Hvar is also known as the island of wine since the 4. ct. B. C., when the Ancient Greeks brought the grape vine to this sunny island and planted it in the fertile plain of the ancient town of Pharos (Stari Grad). Visitors can taste various delicious products from farms and vineyards in konobas (cellars), on wine roads and during various manifestations and degustations, organised by locals on different island's locations.
The best red wines of Hvar are produced from the grapes of plavac mali from the vineyards on the southern hills of the island. The village of Ivan Dolac is settled under these hills, laying by the Adriatic sea. Besides enjoying in good wine, you can experience true nature and clean environment of Ivan Dolac and its surroundings, enriched with natural fragrances of the aromatic Mediterranean flora, such as rosemary and lavender. Also, this is a great place for relaxing in the shade of pine trees, sunbathing on the clean pebble beaches and swimming in the crystal clear sea. Regarding to its isolation from the northern part of the island (with which is connected by the tunnel), Ivan Dolac raised his own microclimate, having the remarkable number of sunny days during the whole year. However, since it is situated on the middle part of the southern side of Hvar, Ivan Dolac is an adequate starting point for visiting Saint Nicholas, the highest peak of the island (628 m) but also for sightseeing the other villages and towns, such as Hvar (40 km), Sucuraj (53 km), Stari Grad (20 km), Vrboska (18 km), Jelsa (12 km), Pitve (8 km) etc.
